Payment Options

There are several options for property owners in McHenry County to pay their property taxes. Please note in order to avoid interest penalties, each installment must be paid by its due date according to Illinois State Law. The payment process is explained on the back side of your tax bill, however, if you have additional questions, please feel free to contact the McHenry County Treasurer's Office at 815-334-4260.

Credit Card convenience fee – 2.4%
Visa and Master Debit Card fee - $4.00
System will display and provide confirmation number and summary page, including the amount and additional service fee if credit card is used.
Follow up with your bank or credit card to be sure the funds are deducted.
Please allow 3 business days from transaction for payment to post.
Only current tax year can be paid online.

IN PERSON - BANKS

Payments can be made at the local banks.

Credit card and debit card payments are not accepted at banks.
You are required to bring your original bill or duplicate copy of your bill.
Banks can provide you with a receipt.
Please check with local banks for their procedure.
Payments are accepted on or before the installment due date.
No late payments can be made at the bank.

PERSONAL ONLINE BANKING - BILL PAY

Pay a tax bill using your financial institution’s bill pay service.
Allow additional time for processing, we recommend scheduling your payment to be sent to us by your financial institution at least 5 business days prior to the actual due date on the property tax bill.
Be certain to verify the Parcel Number/PIN number is submitted with your payment to ensure proper credit. The Property Parcel number/PIN is highlighted in color on your property tax bill.

24-HOUR DROP BOX

Stop, Drop and Drive Away

There are two drop boxes. One freestanding drop box is located at the front of our building. The other freestanding drop box is located at the last drive-up lane which is the furthest lane from our building.

Payments should be made with a check or money order made payable to McHenry County Collector and placed in an envelope.
For your protection, please DO NOT leave cash payments in the drop boxes.
