The Regional Board of School Trustees is an elected board comprised of seven members. This elected board hears petitions for annexations, detachments and changes in school boundaries. The Regional Superintendent acts as Ex-Officio Secretary to the Board. The Regional Office maintains all records of petitions heard in the region.  The volunteer board is only responsible for the annexation and detachment of land parcels and does not monitor the county schools.

 

Applicants must be a registered voter in McHenry County, can’t be a member of a school board, and can’t hold a county office. The Regional Board of School Trustees is an elected body with the sole responsibility of action on detachment/annexation petitions regarding boundary changes between school districts in the region.  Refer to 105 ILCS 5/7 for more information on boundary changes.

All meetings will be held at the Regional Office of Education at 408 State Route 31, McHenry, IL 60050.

The Regional Board of School Trustees has established a $2000.00 filing fee which must accompany a petition presented for the Regional Board's consideration. The fee is used to pay for the publication of legal notice regarding the hearing of the petition and the fee for the court reporter required. Any associated costs beyond the initial filing fee are the responsibility of the petitioner. Any unexpended portion of the filing fee will be returned to the petitioner.
