2022 Groundwater Field Day: Geologic Tour of Veteran Acres and Sterne's Fen in Crystal Lake
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Groundwater Field Day on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. The Field Day included a guided tour of Veteran Acres and Sterne's Fen in Crystal Lake. Our guests learned how McHenry County's amazing geology and ecology help provide for our drinking water.
These beautiful areas contain unique geologic formations that provide great visual examples of our region's glacial history, and the connection between our land and water. The tour was led by Dr. Jason Thomason, Hydrogeologist from the Illinois State Geological Survey, along with Steve Beyers from the Illinois Nature preserves Commission (Retired but busy), John Fiorina from the Crystal Lake Park District, and Scott Kuykendall, McHenry County's Water Resources Specialist.
Dr. Thomason's posters with geologic information can be viewed HERE.
