Our newest preservation project is known as "Heritage Groves." Working in support of the McHenry County Conservation District and citizens concerned with the County's woodlands, this effort is aimed at acknowledging the remaining old-growth and native specimen stands of Oak, Walnut and other varieties of hardwoods in McHenry County. Here are some snapshots of how these stands have been lost over the last 170 years...

As you can see by the diminishing shaded areas, the total wooded areas of this County are rapidly disappearing through the inevitable "March of Progress," despite that our woodlands are one of our most precious resources, both historical and natural. They deserve the recognition we can provide them.
