Every year during May, the McHenry County Department of Health partners with local organizations for "Operation Dropbox," collecting donations for Veterans Path to Hope to support veterans in McHenry County. About 3,000 veterans and families benefit from this drive.
2025 Operation Dropbox
This year, Operation Dropbox has expanded to include the Lake County Health Department. Operation Dropbox is a county-wide initiative running throughout the month of May. Donations will be collected at participating businesses, churches, libraries, and organizations across McHenry and Lake counties. In McHenry County, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers will collect and deliver donations to Veterans Path to Hope.

2024 Results
This year, Operation Dropbox saw an unprecedented level of community support, with 87 organizations participating as dropsite locations for public donations, shattering the program’s previous best of 31 participating organizations. The total weight of donations for 2024 also surpassed last year’s total of 5,466 pounds, reaching 8,283 pounds.
On Tuesday, June 11, the MCDH convened volunteers from the McHenry County Medial Reserve Corps and Veterans Path to Hope at the McHenry County Division of Transportation to hold a state-mandated exercise, utilizing the donations collected to simulate the process of unloading and distributing medical countermeasures during emergencies.
