Hot Meals

Community Kitchen Meal
Holy Apostle Church- Mondays 5:00-5:30 pm

McHenry- 5211 Bull Valley Rd. McHenry, IL 60050

Wauconda- 26283 N. Rt. 59 Wauconda, IL 60084

What: A drive-thru community kitchen meal on Mondays between 5-5:30 pm. Meals must be reserved in advance. If there are extra available meals, you can receive one the same day.

Who: Open to everyone. No proof of residency required. To reserve a meal, arrive to the church on Monday between 5-5:30 pm and a volunteer will assist you. 

Stone Soup- Marengo Social
United Methodist Church- Tuesdays 11:30am-3:00pm

119 E. Washington St. Marengo, IL 60152

What: A supportive, judgement-free, social environment where you can enjoy a warm bowl of soup alongside refreshments and other treats. 

Who: Open to everyone. No proof of residency required. No reservation of meal required. Just show up!

Summer Meal Programs

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) was developed to provide nutritious meals to children during the summer months when school is not in session. The program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).

To locate a site near you, click HERE. Families can also call 1-800-359-2163 or text "FOOD" or "COMIDA" to 304-304 for immediate assistance.

All lunches need to be eaten on-site at the park, lunch components may not be taken home. There is no cost, no registration, and no ID required.

Child Nutrition Classes

In partnership with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, the McHenry County Department of Health is excited to offer nutrition programming to low-income schools and daycares within McHenry County. Students will be receive a brief educational lesson, watch a demonstration, and have the hands-on opportunity to make and try a healthy snack of their own. This is a no-cost program.

Whole-Body Approach

Join the McHenry County Health Department and Northern Illinois Food Bank for a FREE 10-week class that will give you the tools necessary to make positive changes in your lifestyle. The class aims to focus on overall wellness, and is not a diet or exercise class. This class is for registered clients of food pantries in McHenry County. Class participants will receive free produce each week in addition to their regular pantry visits.
