What is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure tells you how hard the blood is pushing against the walls of blood vessels. You see it written as two numbers, the top number (systolic) tells you the pressure when the heart is contracting and the bottom number (diastolic) tells you the pressure when the heart is at rest.
Why Does Your Blood Pressure Matter?
Untreated high blood pressure can lead to things like stroke, heart attack, kidney disease, and other problems. Often people don’t have any signs or symptoms of high blood pressure, which is why it is sometimes called the ‘silent killer’. If you think you are experiencing a hypertensive emergency call 911.
