MCDH Chronic Disease Program works to prevent chronic disease, increase access to resources, and empower community members to take charge of their health.

 People and Chronic Diseases

Chronic Diseases are defined by the CDC as conditions that last 1 year or more and require ongoing medical attention or limit activities of daily living or both. Examples of chronic diseases can include diabetes, cancer, and heart disease.

 

March 24th, 2026, is American Diabetes Alert Day.

Sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, this day is aimed at raising awareness about the risks and symptoms associated with diabetes. Currently, in McHenry County over 10% of the population has diabetes. As many as 1 in 3 have prediabetes and 81% do not know they have it.
