Scott Hartman serves as County Administrator and oversees the day-to-day operations of McHenry. He is responsible for the enforcement of County Board ordinances, policies, regulations, and resolutions; recommends an annual budget, coordinates work of all offices with the appropriate County Board Committees, engages with other local governments, state and federal agencies, and seeks out ways in which efficiency and collaboration may be achieved. Scott has served in this role since 2026 and initially joined the County in 2014 as the Deputy County Administrator. Scott formerly served McHenry County as a member of the McHenry County Ethics Commission from 2007 to 2014.
Prior to his service in McHenry County, Mr. Hartman was the City Manager in Highwood, IL; Village Manager in Pingree Grove, IL; City Administrator in Marengo, IL; and the Assistant to the Village Manager in West Dundee, IL.
Mr. Hartman received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Thiel College, and Master in Public Administration degree from Northern Illinois University.
He has lived in McHenry County since 2004.
