Success Stories for Graduates of the Young Adult
Frank joined the Young Adult Internship Program in summer 2009, at age 15. He completed a paid internship and gained work skills and experience. Frank reapplied to the program in February 2013, looking to gain more experience working hands-on, while deciding what career path he would like to follow. Frank completed paid internships in public works and parks and recreation. He also attended trainings and received his forklift certification. Throughout his time in the Workforce Program, Frank gave his all to learn and strengthen his professionalism. He was a positive example to others and continues to show his appreciation. Frank began working as a plumber’s apprentice in June 2014 with Center Guard Plumbing, Inc. He is continuing to learn the trade and is dedicated to working diligently. Congrats Big Frank on all you have accomplished!
Steven joined the Young Adult Internship Program in February 2013, looking for opportunities to gain skills and work experience. Steven completed paid internships with TJ Maxx and the Crystal Lake Park District. He also attended classes at Harper College, earned a Certificate of Sound Recording Engineering, and completed Recording Studio Classes at Maximum Entertaining Group. Steven is now working towards his Associate’s Degree at Harper College and is completing an internship at Blu Light Recording Studio. He is also a bass player in the band Shepherd the Fallen. Congrats Steven on pursuing your dreams of working in the music industry and on all your success!
Leah joined the Young Adult Internship Program in May 2014. After talking with Leah about her artistic talent and interests, she was placed at a paid internship at The Studio School of Art where she worked as a Teacher’s Assistant. Leah also attended classes at the Youth Center, working to complete credits for high school. Leah accomplished her goal and received her high school diploma in July 2015! Leah worked hard at The Studio and was hired on part-time in July 2015. She also got a job at Auto Zone in summer 2015 and is successfully balancing working 2 jobs. Throughout her time in the program, Leah completed Leadership Training and welcomed others to the program with her enthusiasm and passion. We are so proud of you, Leah, and all you have accomplished!!
Success Story: Paul joined the program in 2009 while he was attending high school. He attended weekly classes and group events. Paul was placed at Sparrow’s Nest Thrift Store in McHenry where he assisted customers with moving furniture items to their vehicles, and maintained the furniture department. Paul was hired by Sparrow’s Nest after completing our program and is still considered a valuable member of their team. Aaron joined the Young Adult Internship Program in spring 2013, looking for opportunities to gain experience and skills on the job. Aaron consistently attended classes, trainings, and career exploration events and also received his high school diploma. Aaron completed a paid internship at the Sparrow’s Nest Thrift Store, where he continues to volunteer. He also completed a paid internship at TJ Maxx and was hired on this summer! Since then, Aaron has also obtained a second part-time job on his own at Steak ‘n Shake. Aaron’s openness to learning new work responsibilities and enthusiasm in helping others have been a strength at work and in the internship program, as Aaron has excelled at helping others to feel welcome. Congrats Aaron on all your success!!
Forrest participated in the Manufacturing Careers Internship Program (MCIP). He completed the 3-week MCIP Bootcamp and obtained his 10-Hour OSHA Certificate and Forklift Operator Certificate. He was matched with Novation Industries in McHenry to complete an 8-week paid internship. During the internship, Forrest was exposed to many different areas and job responsibilities in manufacturing. Forrest was offered a full-time position at Novation Industries at the completion of his internship, which he accepted. Forrest has kept in touch and loves working at Novation. Forrest also came to the decision that he would like to further his education in manufacturing starting this semester and enrolled in classes at MCC. Congrats Forrest!
Nic participated in the Manufacturing Careers Internship Program (MCIP) in Spring 2015. He completed the 3-week MCIP Bootcamp and obtained his 10-Hour OSHA Certificate. Nic was matched with BTM Industries to complete an 8-week paid internship. During the internship, Nic received high compliments for the quality of his work, the personal interest he took in learning as much as he could, asking questions, and even reading manuals re: the operations of the different machines. Nic was offered a full-time position at BTM Industries at the completion of his internship, which he immediately accepted. Nic has kept in touch and loves his job. He is also looking into going to MCC for advanced training in manufacturing in the future. Congrats Nic on all your success!!
Dorian participated in the Program while he was in high school. He attended trainings and activities and became a leader, assisting Youth Staff. Dorian graduated from the program to enter the U.S. Navy. He graduated from Navy Bootcamp in August 2015 and is currently completing advanced training in Florida. We are so proud of all you have accomplished Dorian!!
While Cassie was in the program, she graduated high school, completed coursework and the state exam to obtain her CNA, and was hired full-time at Bickford Assisted Living. Cassie had volunteered at Bickford for several months and was offered a full-time job when she completed school. She is currently working towards her RN degree. Congrats Cassie on all your success!!
Derek graduated from the program after being hired full-time by School District 200, Buildings and Grounds Department. Derek has been working full-time for 2 years and has been recognized for his excellent work. (He is pictured here with Ken Roiland, Director of Buildings and Grounds for District 200.)
Alyx graduated from the program and is following her dreams of going into Graphic Design, attending classes at MCC, and has been hired part-time as a Marketing Associate at Windy City Strategies.
Frank graduated from the program after being hired by the Village of Prairie Grove Public Works Department. He is also working towards getting his CDL.
Jenny graduated from the program after being hired as a Full Time Administrative Assistant at the Algonquin/LITH Chamber of Commerce and is also attending college Part Time.
