     McHenry County Department of Health's 13th Annual Media Design Contest

    Since 2004 the McHenry County Department of Health has hosted a media design contest with a focus on tobacco use prevention.  The contest highlights local talent while educating the community about the ill health effects of smoking and secondhand smoke.  This years theme was "Don't let your future go up in smoke".  The campaign was open to all McHenry County area high schools as well as McHenry County College students.
    Gabrielle Miller is the winner of the 2017 anti-tobacco media campaign.  Her piece was titled "Don't let your future burn away" which shows nine burning cigarettes, each listing something smokers give up - from taste buds to health.  Congratulations Gabrielle!

     

    McHenry County Department of Health's 12th Annual  Media Design Contest 

    2016 McHenry County Department of Health anti-tobacco media campaign was open to McHenry County high school and college students.  The theme for this year's contest was "DANGERS OF E-CIGARETTES & VAPING".

    First place went to Ryan Grandinetti a student at MCC.  Design title "Vaping"

    Second place went to Emily Carstens a student at MCC.  Design title "Different Look"

    Third place went to Alex Remai a student at MCC.  Design title "form Can Change"

    Smoke-free Public Places:  The smoke-free Illinois Act protects Illinois from secondhand smoke in indoor public places and workplaces.  Smoke-free Public Places will build upon the success of the Smoke-free Illinois Act to support further policies that limit smoking in outdoor areas such as parks and campuses.

    Since 2004, the McHenry County Department of Health has hosted a media design contest.  The contest is funded through a grant from the Illinois tobacco-Free Communities from the Illinois Department of Public Health and has sought to highlight local talent while educating the community of the ill health effects of smoking and secondhand smoke.  Artwork is judged on originality, peer appeal and simple and colorful design elements.

     

    TOBACCO 
     The Illinois Tobacco Quitline was created to help people quit tobacco, there is no cost for the counseling services.  Staff can interact with clients in any stage of the cessation process.  Hours of operation are from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday through Saturday and can be reached by calling 866-QUIT-YES (866-784-8937).  If staff are busy assisting other callers, the client has the option to hold or leave a message.
