Community Development Housing Grant Commission

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from individuals interested in appointment to the McHENRY COUNTY COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT HOUSING GRANT COMMISSION (CDHG) Applications are being accepted for Three at large delegate positions each with a term as follows: One position is available with a term to expire on December 15, 2020; Two positions are available with a term to expire on December 15, 2021.

All applicants shall be residents and/or employed within McHenry County, Illinois. Applicants are encouraged from individuals representing township supervisors, township road commissioners, municipalities, realty association, the banking industry, and construction trades.

McHenry County Conservation District

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from individuals interested in an appointment to the McHenry County Conservation District Board of Trustees.  Two positions will be available as follows:   McHenry County Conservation District is seeking two new Board Trustees to serve a 5-year term beginning July 1, 2019. The Board of Trustees, comprised of seven (7) members, represent the interests of ALL citizens in the County in a non-partisan role. Board members develop long-range plans, establish policy and chart a strategic course and direction for the preservation of, education about, and recreational use of the county’s natural and cultural resources.

Qualifications: Resident of McHenry County; Qualified voter, and cannot hold any other political office and are not officers of any political party; Demonstrated interest in purposes of the District (preservation, education and recreation).

McHenry County Ethics Commission

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from persons interested in an appointment to the MCHENRY COUNTY ETHICS COMMISSION.  Two positions are available each with a term to expire February 1, 2021.

McHenry County Hearing Officer

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from individuals interested in appointment as the McHENRY COUNTY HEARING OFFICER (MCHO). Incumbents may apply for re-appointment. One position is available with a term to expire October 31, 2020. By virtue of the Illinois Compiled Statutes, Chapter 55, Division 5–12, Zoning, Counties are granted the authority to establish the position of hearing officer. The MCHO conducts public hearings and produces recommendations and findings of fact relating to requests for variation of the zoning regulations of McHenry County for consideration by the McHenry County Board.

Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of McHenry County land use patterns and trends.
  2. Advanced knowledge of land use, planning, zoning, legal and policy related issues as they relate to zoning variations.
  3. Extensive knowledge of State Statute and adopted County Ordinances relating to zoning variations and hearing procedures.
  4. Ability to conduct public meetings fairly, in an orderly, thorough and timely manner and in accordance with the Illinois Open Meetings Act.
  5. Training and experience in the review and hearing of petitions for zoning variation which qualifies the individual to make recommendations or findings of fact on such matters.

Responsibilities and Duties of the Hearing Officer:

  1. Conduct public hearings as required by law relating exclusively to requests for variation of the adopted zoning regulations of McHenry County.
  2. Make recommendations and produce a “Finding of Fact” as they relate to specific requests for zoning variation.
  3. Make such findings and recommendations for consideration by the McHenry County Board within 90 days of the close of the public hearing.
  4. Execute the powers, duties and obligations of the MCHO as outlined in Article 8 of the McHenry County Zoning Ordinance and as contained in State Statute as they relate to petitions for a zoning variation.

Time Commitment and Compensation:

  1. The MCHO shall hold hearings on requests for variation as needed. It is anticipated that the MCHO shall hold hearings at least twice a month. Multiple hearings may be held on any given day and additional meetings may be held as required to expedite the disposition of variation requests. Additional hearing/meeting dates shall be determined by the MCHO as dictated by caseload.
  2. Hearings will not be held in the event that there are no pending requests for variations.
  3. Compensation shall be $200 per hour or as determined by the McHenry County Board.

Hebron Drainage District

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from persons interested in appointment to the Hebron Drainage District No. 1.  One (1) vacant position is available with a term expiring on September 1, 2021. Appointments to the Hebron Drainage District No. 1 are for three-year terms.  Individuals applying must be residents of McHenry County, Illinois.  Printable and online application forms are available below. Historic Preservation Commission

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from individuals interested in appointment to the McHENRY COUNTY HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION. Seven (7) positions are available for appointment as follows:  One (1) position with a term to expire November 26, 2020; Two (2) positions each with a term to expire November 26, 2021; One (1) position with a term to expire date of November 26, 2022; and Three (3) positions each with a term to expire November 26, 2023.

Attorneys, architects, engineers, real estate professionals with knowledge of historic preservation, and individuals with a demonstrated interest in pre-history, history or architecture are encouraged to apply.

McHenry County Tuberculosis Care & Treatment Board

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from persons interested in an appointment to the MCHENRY COUNTY TUBERCULOSIS CARE AND TREATMENT BOARD.  One position will be available each with a term beginning July 1, 2019 and to expire June 30, 2022.

Valley Hi Cemetery Board

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from individuals interested in appointment to the VALLEY HI CEMETERY BOARD.  One (1) position is available with a term to expire August 1, 2020.

Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA)

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from persons interested in appointment to the McHENRY COUNTY ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS (ZBA).  One position is available for a Zoning Board of Appeals regular member with a term expiring on September 01, 2019.

Two positions are available for a Zoning Board of Appeals alternate members. One position  with a term expiring December 15, 2020 and one position with a term expiring December 15, 2021. Alternate members attend hearings only in the absence of a regular member.

Applicants for the open positions must reside in one of the following townships:  Chemung, Hebron, Burton, Hartland, Marengo, Riley, Seneca, Coral, Grafton, Greenwood, and Dorr. No two members of the McHenry County Zoning Board of Appeals may be from the same township.

The Zoning Board of Appeals typically conducts public hearings and voting meetings on Thursday afternoons.  Meetings typically last one to three hours.  Zoning Board of Appeals members are provided a per diem of $110 for each meeting day.

McHenry County Board of Health

The McHenry County Board is accepting applications from individuals interested in appointment to the McHenry County Board of Health.  Three positions will be available each with a term to as follows: One position who must be a Physician will be available with a term beginning July 1, 2019 to expire on June 2022; One position who must be Registered Nurse will be available with a term beginning July 1, 2019 to expire June 30, 2022 and one position to represent food service or civil engineering or veterinary services.
