Court Response to Coronavirus

22nd Circuit Press Release 3-23-2020

On March 17th the Illinois Supreme Court ordered all Illinois courts to scale back operations to essential mandated services only.  The McHenry County Courthouse is closed to all parties except those appearing on what is considered an essential mandated service. 

The court continues to hold hearings on the following matters:

  •  Emergency Petitions for Orders of Protection, Stalking, No Contact and subsequent hearings;
  •  Emergency Petitions for Civil No Contact, and Petitions for Firearm Surrender Order and subsequent hearings;
  •  Detention hearings for juveniles who are detained;
  •  Shelter care hearings for juveniles who may have been abused or neglected;
  •  Summary Suspension Hearings;
  •  Criminal matters related to the setting and modification of bond;
  •  Criminal trials with speedy trial demands; and
  •  Mental health hearings for involuntary commitment or treatment.

Please do not attempt to enter the Courthouse if you have:

  •  Flu-like symptoms including fever, cough or shortness of breath;
  •  Been diagnosed with COVID 19 (or someone close to you has);
  •  Been directed to quarantine, isolate or self-monitor at home by any medical provider;
  •  Traveled, within the last 21 days, to any country designated by the CDC as a high-risk locations for COVID-19; or
  •  Had close contact with anyone who has traveled to any of these high risk locations.

 

All other cases scheduled through Friday, May 1, 2020, will be continued into May, June and July.  As the Circuit Clerk’s office works through these continuances, rescheduled dates will be made available on the Circuit Clerk’s website at www.mchenrycircuitclerk.org.  All case parties will receive a mailed notice of the rescheduled date.  Please keep checking the Circuit Clerk’s website to obtain your new court date. 

All Circuit Clerk online services are still available on the Circuit Clerk's website.  Documents can be filed through our eFiling portal, but court dates will not be allowed to be scheduled in April unless it is for a mandated service.  Traffic tickets can be paid, as well as payments on any other case type, electronic copies can be requested, case information can be searched.  Go to www.mchenrycircuitclerk.org to connect to these online services.

Temporary Screening Procedures Implemented by McHenry County Sheriff for "Essential Mandated Services" Courthouse Visitors

Effective March 18, 2020, UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE THE ONLY ITEMS ALLOWED IN THE GOVERNMENT CENTER ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  • KEYS

     

  • PHOTO I.D.

  • CREDIT CARD/CASH

  • COURT PAPERS

 

 

IN ADDITION TO ALL OTHER PROHIBITED ITEMS:

THE FOLLOWING WILL NOT BE ALLOWED INTO THE GOVERNMENT CENTER

  • PURSES, BACKPACKS, BAGS OF ANY KIND

  • COMPUTERS

  • ADULT FRIENDS OR FAMILY MEMBERS NOT CONDUCTING OFFICIAL BUSINESS

 

 Exceptions will be made for Attorney’s entering the building on official business.
