FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

McHenry County State’s Attorney Randi L. Freese announces that the Honorable Judge Cynthia D. Lamb granted the State’s petition to deny pretrial release for Victor Hugo Agaton-Mora, 29, of Algonquin, Illinois, following an investigation into allegations that he groomed and sexually abused a child.

Agaton-Mora appeared in Initial Appearance Court on August 20, 2026, charged with six counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, Class 2 felonies; Indecent Solicitation of a Child, a Class 3 felony; Child Luring, a Class 4 felony; two counts of Grooming, Class 4 felonies; and two counts of Distributing Harmful Material to a Minor, Class A misdemeanors.

Evidence presented at the detention hearing established that the Algonquin Police Department began investigating in early July after receiving a report that a minor had allegedly been sexually abused by Agaton-Mora. Following a forensic interview of the child, detectives learned that Agaton-Mora and the child had communicated through Snapchat and TextNow.

Detectives subsequently obtained search warrants for Agaton-Mora’s Snapchat and TextNow accounts. According to the evidence presented in court, investigators uncovered extensive sexually explicit text and telephone communications between Agaton-Mora and the child. The investigation further revealed that those communications allegedly culminated in Agaton-Mora meeting with the child and engaging in sexual conduct on multiple occasions in June 2026.

Following the presentation of evidence and arguments, Judge Lamb granted the State’s petition and ordered Agaton-Mora detained pending trial.

State’s Attorney Freese commended the victim for their bravery and the Algonquin Police Department for its investigation. “This child showed tremendous courage by speaking up about what was happening. Because they found the strength to come forward, Algonquin detectives were able to uncover critical digital evidence and act upon it. We will stand with this child and fight to hold those who prey on children accountable.”

Agaton-Mora’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 3, 2026, in Courtroom 304.
