McHenry County Department of Health to offer reduced-cost water testing in August, once again partnering with local townships
MCHENRY COUNTY, IL – The McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) encourages private well owners to test their water supply at least once a year for for coliform bacteria and nitrates. To support this effort, the MCDH is offering reduced-cost water sample analysis throughout August. During this month, residents can have their water tested for total coliform bacteria, E. coli bacteria, and a nitrate screen for $25—down from the standard $35 fee.
To make water testing more convenient, the MCDH partners with several township offices to offer year-round water sample kit pickup and drop-off locations. Residents can pick up water sample kits during normal business hours. Water samples should be collected on Wednesday mornings and returned to a participating township location between 9 a.m. and noon the same day. Test results are typically available within 24 to 48 hours. Payment must accompany each sample in the form of a check; cash is not accepted.
Residents may also drop off water samples at the MCDH’s Environmental Health office, located at 667 Ware Road (Suite 110) in Woodstock, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
