Assessment notices to be posted online starting this year

Post Date:05/05/2026 9:46 AM

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – Starting this year, McHenry County properties that are only adjusted by their equalization factor will not be receiving a mailed copy of their assessment.

Notices for these properties are available online through the McHenry County property tax portal at https://mchenryil.devnetwedge.com. The Assessments Office will still mail physical notices for re-evaluations, farmland, and new properties.

The County Board made the switch to online assessment notices to save taxpayers more than $65,000 a year in postage costs.

Assessment notices on computers and tablets can be accessed by clicking the “Property Assessments Notice” link on the right-hand side of your property tax information – to learn how to access the portal and pull up information for your property, you can watch a brief instructional video by visiting the Assessments Office website. On smart phones, the Assessments tab can be found by clicking the three-line “hamburger” icon in the upper right-hand corner.

Also visit the Assessments Office website to sign up for email alerts when assessment notices for your township are published; the publication date starts the 30-day window for property owners who wish to challenge their assessment. Visitors can also sign up for text alerts, which will be available at a later date.

For questions, call the Assessments Office at 815-334-4290.

McHenry County Treasurer Donna Kurtz, County Clerk and Recorder Joe Tirio, and Chief Assessment Officer Alex Benitez are teaming up to hold a workshop event to educate the public on property taxes, and the new online assessment notices will be discussed. The workshop takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, at the Luecht Auditorium (Building B) of McHenry County College.
