WOODSTOCK, Ill. – The McHenry County Division of Transportation (MCDOT) is launching its next five-year program for the public to review and provide comments on. This program will help shape the projects and initiatives that the Division of Transportation will focus upon to best bring about the transportation network that the County deserves. The program itself can be found at https://engagemcdot.mchenrycountyil.gov/our-five-year-plan. Public Comments and questions can be submitted via email to mcdot@mchenrycountyil.gov through January 19th, 2026. Key highlights of the program include projects focused around intersection safety, pedestrian improvements, transit system expansion and bridge maintenance.

“This Program is our chance to show the public exactly what the MCDOT has planned for the future, and give details on projects that our motoring public wants to know," said Scott Hennings, Assistant Director of Transportation. "This is also their chance to offer feedback on that plan and help shape the direction our County moves in.”

This new five year program represents a significant investment in the County’s transportation future. Leveraging a wide array of federal, state and local funding sources the MCDOT will continue to lay the foundation needed to help keep McHenry County’s roadways safe and improve our infrastructure for tomorrow’s needs.

Key focuses of the 2026-2030 program include:

  • Pavement assessment and upkeep on over 500 lane miles.

  • Preventative maintenance on the County’s 40+ bridges.

  • Improvements to pedestrian infrastructure along county routes.

  • Critical infrastructure changes for mass transit.

  • Multiple intersection safety improvements.

The MCDOT encourages the public to review the five-year program, check out what projects may impact their daily commute, and submit feedback on them via email. Public comments will be reviewed up until the day before the five-year program is presented to the County Board on January 20th.
