Property Tax Bills are in the Mail

Taxpayers Have Many Payment Options

Post Date:05/07/2025
WOODSTOCK, Ill. – Taxpayers should expect to receive their property tax bills in their mailboxes during the week of May 12th.  Due dates for the 1st and 2nd installations, respectively, are June 10th and September 10.  Keep in mind that in McHenry County, taxpayers only receive one tax bill with 2 payment coupons.

According to County Treasurer, Donna Kurtz, “We want to make it as easy as possible for taxpayers to pay their taxes.  That is why we offer numerous options to accommodate our taxpayers’ preferences and requirements.  We have listed these payment options below.”

In addition, for those who want to pay online or see your tax bill, you can do that today.  Visit treasurer.mchenrycountyil.gov and click on “Look Up/Pay Your Tax Bill.”  Conduct your search, find your tax bill, and then click on “Tax Bill” to review your bill or “Pay Taxes” to pay your property taxes electronically.

Kurtz again is promoting the use of E-Check, as the most efficient way to pay your tax bill.  According to Kurtz, “E-Check is free, fast, and reliable.  Our office pays the fee and you can pay online or by phone.”  To pay by phone, call 877-220-2247 and follow the prompts. When you pay via E-Check by phone or online, write down the payment confirmation code you will receive so you have this for your records.

Another way to pay is to scan the QR code on the upper right of your property tax bill to register for the VIP Taxpayer program.  This program provides functions such as scheduling electronic payments, receiving payment reminders, and receipt of next year’s bill electronically. VIP Taxpayers still can pay by electronic check (E-Check) without paying any processing fees as a VIP Taxpayer, or as a one-time online payer.

You can also pay in person by visiting the Treasurer’s Office at 2100 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays and pay at the window or through the drive-thru lanes. The Treasurer’s Office accepts check, cash, and debit/credit card payments.

In addition, the Treasurer’s Office has two 24-hour drop boxes, one walk-up and one drive-through. Dropoff payments can be a check or money order (no cash), made payable to the McHenry County Collector and placed in an envelope with the payment coupon.

Many local banks accept walk-in property tax payments. A list of these participating McHenry County banks, contact information, and the communities where they are located can be found at treasurer.mchenrycountyil.gov. Keep in mind that credit and debit card payments are not accepted at these local banks – you must bring your tax bill or a copy of it, and many banks may only serve their customers.

Finally, if you wish to pay by mail, send the payment (please do not send cash) along with the payment coupon to: McHenry County Collector, PO Box 8730, Carol Stream, IL 60197-8730. If paying by check, please write your property parcel number on it. Mailed payments must be postmarked by the first and second installment due dates to avoid penalties.
