McHenry County Department of Health’s Animal Control Division to Host Low-Cost Microchip Clinic in April

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL – The McHenry County Department of Health’s Animal Control Division, to coincide with National Public Health Week, is excited to host a low-cost microchip clinic on Saturday, April 6th from 11am-1pm at the McHenry County Animal Control and Adoption Center, located at 100 N. Virginia Street in Crystal Lake.

All pets over 4 months old must be up-to-date on their rabies vaccinations in order to receive a microchip. Microchips are priced at $10 per pet, with veterans receiving a discounted fee of $5 per pet. To receive the discounted rate or service for free, proof of eligibility will be requested when scheduling an appointment. Payment will be accepted via cash only. This clinic is a drive-thru event. Attendees are asked to remain in their vehicles during their appointment and should keep all dogs on leashes and cats in carriers. Please do not bring animals that are in heat. Owners are responsible for muzzling dogs that require one.

Microchips offer tamper-proof permanent identification, unlike visible tags that can wear or fall off. These chips store owner contact and pet information and can be easily scanned by most vets and shelters. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, statistics indicate that one in three pets will become lost at some point in their lives. However, pets with registered microchips and up-to-date owner contact information are significantly more likely to be reunited with their families.
