WOODSTOCK, Ill. – Property owners through the month of December can take advantage of the Advance Tax Program, which allows them to make a pre-payment toward next year’s property taxes.
From Dec. 1 to Dec. 29, taxpayers have the option to make an early payment on their tax bill that will be due in 2024, Treasurer Donna Kurtz said.
“The Advance Tax Program gives taxpayers who wish to do so the opportunity to pre-pay next year’s taxes. This can help those taxpayers who want to make a payment this tax year in order to accommodate personal or financial objectives that they may have,” Kurtz said.
Participating property owners must fill out and sign the Advance Tax Agreement, which can be found at www.mchenrycountyil.gov/departments/treasurer/advance-tax, and return it to the Treasurer’s Office with a check payable to the McHenry County Collector. A separate check and agreement are required for each parcel.
Payments can be made in person or mailed, and payments made by mail must be received by the Treasurer’s Office by Dec. 29 – postmarks cannot be accepted. Envelopes must be addressed to:
McHenry County Collector
2200 N. Seminary Ave.
Woodstock, IL 60098
ATTN: Karla Mejia
While property owners may seek to pay in advance for potential tax advantages, Treasurer’s Office staff is not able to dispense tax advice or offer information regarding the benefits of making advance payments, Kurtz said. Rather, property owners should contact a tax professional for this purpose. However, pre-payment is not recommended for people who are selling or planning to sell their homes.
