WOODSTOCK, Ill. – The McHenry County Treasurer’s Office is waiving fees this year for people who want to pay their property taxes online by electronic check (E-Check).
According to Treasurer Donna Kurtz, those paying via E-Check, through the portal on the Treasurer’s Office website or by phone, will not incur fees for their 2022 property taxes (due June 12, 2023 for the first installment and Sept. 12, 2023 for the second installment). In past years, those paying electronically did incur a user fee.
“E-Check is a safe and fast way to pay your property taxes electronically, it’s convenient, and now it’s free,” Kurtz said. “Unlike paying your property taxes with a credit card which has a 2.4% fee – that could cost hundreds of dollars – paying by E-Check has NO fees. By using E-Check, you get the convenience of paying electronically without the high credit card expenses."
To pay your property taxes electronically via E-Check, visit treasurer.mchenrycountyil.gov and click on “Look Up/Pay Your Tax Bill.” Once you look up your tax bill, you can click on “Pay Taxes” to begin the process. To pay by phone, call 877-690-3729, and enter jurisdiction code 2301 at the prompt. When you pay via E-Check, write down the payment confirmation code you will receive so you have this for your records.
Property taxes can also be paid by mail (do not send cash), by visiting the Treasurer’s Office during regular business hours, or at many participating local banks.
