WOODSTOCK, Ill. – The McHenry County property tax bills being mailed out Friday, May 5, will be printed in a new and improved format that makes them easier to understand, and makes it easier to get questions answered and issues resolved.
Font sizes have been enlarged so readers can better read important information such as the amounts they pay into their various taxing bodies, the assessed value of their property, the exemptions they receive, and whether back taxes are owed on the property. Information also has been color-coded by topic, including the coupons to be mailed in with both installments.
The Treasurer’s Office also has added new tools to its website at treasurer.mchenrycountyil.gov to make understanding their tax bill, and paying it, easier, Treasurer Donna Kurtz said. Visitors can click on “Your Tax Bill Explained” to examine a sample tax bill labeled with easy-to-understand explanations of important items. The website also contains a portal through which to easily pay their property taxes online, as well as readily generate a duplicate tax bill.
“People who pay property taxes to finance their local school districts, municipalities, townships and other local governments deserve transparency – and a tax bill that’s easy to understand,” Kurtz said. “Besides changes to the bill format itself, taxpayers can find new tools on the Treasurer’s Office website to get their questions answered.”
The tax bills being mailed out May 5 will be the only bill that property owners will receive from the Treasurer’s Office. The bill for 2022 property taxes payable this year are due in two installments – the first is due on Monday, June 12, and the second is due Tuesday, Sept. 12.
