Thin Lift Overlay Work Starting June 8 on Cary Algonquin Road
WOODSTOCK, Ill. - Work will soon begin to place a thin lift asphalt overlay on Cary Algonquin Road between North Main Street and U.S. Route 14.
The project is expected to start on Monday, June 8, with a completion date of Tuesday, July 14, weather permitting. In addition to the overlay, 17 crosswalk ramps at nine intersections along the resurfacing limits will be updated to current Americans with Disabilities Act standards; this work is slated to start soon and will be completed before the laying of the overlay.
Applying a thin, ¾-inch layer of asphalt allows the McHenry County Division of Transportation to maintain the quality of county roads, extend pavement life, and allow our funding to go farther so we can resurface more of our 550 lane miles. This pavement preservation strategy has been successfully applied elsewhere, such as Charles Road in 2012, Kishwaukee Valley Road in 2013, and Tryon Grove Road in 2019.
Drivers should be prepared for lane closures and delays while paving work is in progress. Please watch out for workers in work zones, obey work-zone speed limits, and never text and drive. We appreciate your patience as we strive to maintain our county highways.
Peter Baker & Son Co., of Lake Bluff, was awarded the $806,231.48 bid in April 20, and contracted with Alliance Contractors Inc. of Woodstock to complete the crosswalk ramps for the project.
