County Board to meet remotely April 21 to vote on property tax late fee delay

Post Date:04/15/2020 4:01 PM

WOODSTOCK, Ill. – The McHenry County Board will hold a virtual meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, to approve a 90-day waiver of late fees and interest on the first installment of this year’s property tax bills to help people struggling financially because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The virtual meeting, with members attending remotely, is being conducted to adhere to physical distancing recommendations to help curtail the COVID-19 outbreak. Tuesday evening’s meeting, like all meetings of the County Board and its standing committees, will be streamed live on the county Meeting Portal, which can be found on the county website at

“Convening the County Board remotely is unprecedented, but these are unprecedented times,” County Board Chairman Jack Franks, D-Marengo, said. “It is vital that we pass this ordinance to deliver our taxpayers and small business owners a measure of relief – and we need to do it openly and transparently, without putting the County Board, or members of the public, at risk.”

People who wish to offer public comment during the meeting can do so by emailing it to [email protected], no later than 5 p.m. the night of the meeting. Commenters are asked to include their name and address in the email for the record.

The virtual meeting complies with the Open Meetings Act because the provision of the law requiring a quorum of elected members to be physically present has been temporarily suspended by an executive order from Gov. JB Pritzker.

McHenry County has set up a resource page at for community members, businesses and nonprofits needing assistance as a result of the pandemic.
