McHenry County Unites to Combat COVID-19

Municipalities and agencies create “stay-at-home” video message for residents.

CRYSTAL LAKE -- Public information officers (PIOs) from county police departments, fire departments, emergency management agency, hospitals, health department and schools have collaborated on a video to emphasize the shelter in place order issued by Gov. J.B. Pritzker. The video highlights community leaders (police, fire, hospital workers, etc.) delivering a brief, simple message about the importance of staying home as much as possible during this time to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in McHenry County to save lives.

In addition to the “stay at home” message, the PIO network emphasizes the following key points:

  • McHenry County residents should leave home only for essential travel. Essential travel includes trips to the pharmacy, gas station, work (if an “essential worker”), and grocery store.
  • Designate one person per household (if possible) to do essential travel/shopping to minimize the number of family members coming into contact with others.
  • Practice “physical” distancing; stay at least six feet away from other people.
  • Safe socializing is encouraged! Residents should explore online social platforms to stay connected to family, friends and others.

The video will be posted on the social media platforms of multiple agencies (as stated above). The media and general public are also encouraged to share the video and post examples of themselves at home using hashtag #StayHomeMcHenryCounty.
