James Durkee Pleads Guilty to Arson

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that 55-year-old James Durkee of Woodstock, Illinois, was found guilty of Arson, a class 2 felony, following a negotiated plea before the Honorable Michael Coppedge.

On November 18, 2019, members of the Woodstock Police Department began investigating a call of a car engulfed in flames within an attached garage at the United States Post Office located in Woodstock, IL. Witnesses made identifications of the defendant as well as surveillance footage captured the defendant purchasing various items used in the offense.

Durkee was sentenced to a term of twelve years in the Illinois Department of Corrections pursuant to the plea. He was sentenced to an extended term of imprisonment based on his prior criminal history.

This case was investigated by members of the Woodstock Police Department. This case was prosecuted by Susanne Groebner of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
