Statement from County Board Chairman Jack Franks regarding Electoral Board ruling
The following is a statement from County Board Chairman Jack Franks, D-Marengo, regarding the McHenry County Electoral Board’s decision to overrule the attempt to remove the advisory referendum regarding the Regional Office of Education from the March 17 primary ballot:
“The forces arrayed against reform in McHenry County are breathtaking. The old guard will do anything to protect and preserve the status quo at all costs, which is why our county’s homeowners and businesses pay some of the highest property taxes in the nation.
“I’m glad that the Electoral Board unanimously saw through Mr. Brettman’s frivolous attempt to deny the voters of McHenry County a say in the structure of their government. I look forward to hearing what the voters have to say about the future of an office whose time, I believe, has passed.”
