Mario Martinez-Zarate Sentenced to 14 Years in the Department of Corrections for Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child

MARIO MARTINEZ-ZARATE SENTENCED TO 14 YEARS IN THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS FOR PREDATORY CRIMINAL SEXUAL ASSAULT OF A CHILD

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that 33-year-old Mario Martinez-Zarate, formerly of Marengo, Illinois, was sentenced to 14 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child following a negotiated plea in front of the Honorable Judge Robert Wilbrandt on February 6, 2019. Under the Truth and Sentencing Guidelines, Martinez-Zarate will have to serve 85% of the sentence received.

Martinez-Zarate plead guilty to sexually assaulting a minor victim who was under 13 years old between December 1, 2017 and January 5, 2018.  Upon release from custody, Martinez-Zarate will have to register as a lifetime sex offender.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Mary Ann Scholl and Sharyl Eisenstein.  The case was investigated by Detective Ed Maldonado of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office.
