Health Department offers no-cost pre-diabetes and diabetes management classes

WOODSTOCK IL – McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH) wants to help you keep one of your New Year’s resolutions. Lots of people resolve to eat healthier in the New Year but lack the proper tools. The Department of Health is offering two types of no-cost classes aimed towards people who have diabetes or those at risk for developing the disease.
The Centers for Disease Control Diabetes Prevention program will be offered beginning in mid-January. The purpose of this class is to prevent Type 2 diabetes through behavioral and lifestyle changes focusing on weight loss and increased physical activity. Interested people should attend one of two overview sessions on January 11th at 12 noon or January 14th at 5 pm at the McHenry County Department of Health in Woodstock.
A 6 week workshop, developed by Stanford University with the aim of increasing confidence in managing or preventing Type II Diabetes is offered at various community locations and dates from January through May. This class has the objective of improving blood glucose control and reducing long-term health risks for people with diabetes or who are at risk for developing diabetes.
