SHAWN BRAND PLEAD GUILTY TO DELIVERY OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that 35-year-old Shawn Brand of Wonder Lake, IL, plead guilty to the offense of delivery of a controlled substance.
On July 5, 2017 the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department investigated a heroin overdose that resulted in the death of 29 year old Jeremy Caccamo. In the course of the investigation, the Sheriff’s department recovered text messages of Caccamo’s phone which indicated that he set up a drug transaction with the defendant, Shawn Brand. The evidence established that Brand sold two bags of heroin to Caccamo in exchange for 20 dollars U.S. currency. At the scene of Caccamo’s death the Sheriff’s department recovered multiple empty packages containing heroin residue. The defendant admitted that two of the baggies had been sold to Caccamo, but that the other empty packets were not a part of the transaction.
Under Illinois law the offense is punishable by 4 to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. A sentencing hearing will be conducted before the Honorable Judge Sharon Prather on January 10, 2019.
This case was investigated by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department and prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Combs and Rita Gara.
