Ruben Popoca-Garcia Found Guilty by Jury of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse

RUBEN POPOCA-GARCIA FOUND GUILTY BY JURY OF AGGRAVATED CRIMINAL SEXUAL ABUSE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney, announces that 41-year-old Ruben Popoca-Garcia of Harvard, Illinois, was found guilty after a jury trial on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.
Defendant was convicted of having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old minor in 2013. Following the initial investigation into the allegation of sexual abuse, the defendant reportedly fled to Mexico and was not apprehended until May of 2016.
Defendant is scheduled to be sentenced in front of the Honorable Judge Sharon Prather on November 29, 2018.
This case was investigated by the Harvard Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorneys Randi Freese and Rita Gara.
