WOODSTOCK IL – Can you donate a few new unused household goods and job interviewing supplies to McHenry County veterans? Country Financial and partners McHenry County Department of Health (MCDH), , McHenry County Division of Transportation (McDOT) and volunteers from the McHenry County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) are joining forces and asking community members to drop off requested items like socks, job-interview portfolios, paper plates and non-perishable food items to give a boost to County veterans.

Beginning on October 1st, requested new items can be dropped at multiple County locations. Drop-off points include:  In Woodstock: MCDH 2200 N Seminary, Country Financial 1400 N Seminary, Chilly Willie’s 124 Cass Street.  In Cary: St. Peter and Paul Church 410 N 1st St.  In Crystal Lake: MCDH 100 N Virginia.  In Harvard: Harvard Chevrolet Buick GMC 333 S. Division Street. In McHenry: City Hall, 333 S. Green St. and McHenry Recreation Center at 3636 Municipal Drive.  Drop-off boxes will be identified by a blue and red “Operation Drop Box” poster. Collection will continue until November 1st.

“Operation Drop Box”, adapted from similar events held throughout the Country, is a team collaboration between COUNTRY Financial, MCDH, McDOT and the McHenry County MRC.   “Every year we conduct an exercise demonstrating our ability to coordinate public health emergencies.  When Country Financial suggested working together on a project benefitting veterans, it seemed like a good idea to fulfill exercise requirements while also doing something worthwhile.  Our partners were all very enthusiastic – it’s nice to have a way of saying thanks in a small way to men and women who have given so much for us all.” said Patti Corn, Emergency Response Program Facilitator for MCDH.

Items needed are men’s and women’s socks and athletic shoes (all sizes), gas cards, napkins, kitchen trash bags, toilet paper, toiletries, personal hygiene products, interview portfolios, paper plates, washing machine pods, household cleaning supplies and non-perishable food items.  Just before Thanksgiving, Country Financial, MCDH, McDOT staff and volunteers from the MRC will assemble kits containing the items.  McDOT will deliver the kits to Transitional Living Services (TLS) offices.  A list of items and locations can be found at  More information is also available by calling 815-334-4510.
