Part-Time Estate Groundskeeper & Maintenance Assistant

Job Description:

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Groundskeeper to help preserve, maintain, and enhance a beautiful 15-acre private estate and hobby farm. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys outdoor work, takes pride in maintaining landscapes, and is comfortable operating a variety of equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain approximately 6 acres of lawn using a commercial mower, line trimmer, and related equipment.

Trim hedges and shrubs; prune trees and plantings.

Apply fertilizers and weed control products in accordance with safety guidelines.

Operate tractors, a front-end loader, and three-point hitch attachments such as a brush hog and disc harrow.

Perform routine equipment checks and basic maintenance, including monitoring oil, fluid levels, and tire pressure.

Assist with light property maintenance, such as changing lightbulbs, organizing the workshop and garage, and moving materials or equipment.

Support seasonal property needs such as leaf removal or snow management (if applicable).

Qualifications

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Ability to pass a background check.

Experience with groundskeeping or equipment operation preferred but not required—training provided.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Strong attention to detail and a proactive, safety-first mindset.

Dependable and able to work independently once trained.

Experience and Skills Required:

Demonstrated ability to work independently and responsibly without direct supervision

Strong attention to detail and situational awareness, especially around structures, vehicles, and equipment

Basic experience with outdoor work, landscaping, or property maintenance

Ability to safely use or learn to use commercial lawn equipment (mower, trimmer, etc.)

Willingness to follow instructions and prioritize safety over speed

Reliable transportation to a rural McHenry County location

Ability to lift 40–50 lbs and work outdoors in varying conditions

Hours and Days:          15 hours a week, flexible days
