Job Club (Network to Success) Meetings - This meeting takes place the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month, with the purpose of providing a positive job search approach in a casual networking atmosphere. We may show videos, bring in speakers, or utilize the expertise of our staff. Our networking portion will allow participants to introduce themselves, network, discuss interviews and share job leads and tips with other members. Reservations are required. Meetings are usually held at the Shah Center, but check our Workforce Network calendar or our seminar brochure to be sure of location.

 

Resume / Portfolio / Interview Basics - Resume: Learn what information belongs in your resume and what you should leave out. Topics include a discussion of the chronological and functional resume, cover letter writing, and how to email a resume. Preparing a resume for email will also be discussed. Interview: Learn the fundamentals of interview preparation and how to make the best impression. Topics include researching companies and salaries, dressing for the interview, body language, typical interview questions, salary negotiation, and following up after the interview. Portfolio: Learn how to develop a portfolio, what items to include, and how to present one in an interview. This class is recommended prior to setting up an appointment for Practice Interview. Basic Computer Skills Seminar -For those with minimal workable knowledge using a computer. Topics:  using a mouse; saving to a flash drive; Microsoft Word; email account creation/Internet usage. This is a hands-on workshop led by a business professional. Go to our Workforce Network Calendar to see when the next Basic Computer Skills Seminar will be held. Reservations are required.

 

Career Planning Workshop - Effective career planning basics will give you "direction" for your future and help you make the most of the changes that are evolving in the workplace. Learn how to use online resources such as Illinois workNet for career related assessments. Get familiar with career research tools including U.S. Labor Market Information (LMI) to help you plan the next steps to achieve your career goal. Every job seeker can benefit from a focused career plan!

 

Transferable Skills / So You Think You've Got Talent? - You do have talent! Much more than you may realize. Join us for a workshop on how your transferable skills can be highlighted on your resumes and in your interview to impress future employers with what a "STAR" candidate you are.

 

One-on-One Resume Critiques and Mock Interview Sessions - Have you gotten good results from your resume? Do you need it critiqued? Do you need practice answering focused interview questions? We have several business professional available on site to meet individually with Workforce Center customers. Schedule a half-hour time slot by emailing one of those professionals directly.
