The Narcotics Unit is part of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office – Criminal Investigations Division. The Narcotics Unit is responsible for enforcing and investigating narcotics complaints and violations within McHenry County. These investigations are generated by citizen contacts, Crimestoppers reports and officer initiated activities.
The mission of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office - Narcotics Unit is to create an environment free of illegal drugs within McHenry County and its communities, schools and places of work.
The Narcotics Unit is comprised of law enforcement officers from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement agencies within McHenry County. Every investigator assigned to the unit receives specialized training and has extensive knowledge of the narcotics trade, specializing in the recognition, apprehension and prosecution of persons involved in illegal drug activity.
The Narcotics Unit focuses on street and mid-level drug investigations, complaints and also assists other law enforcement agencies with sensitive investigations that require specialized equipment and technical expertise. In addition, the unit works closely with all state and federal law enforcement agencies, which includes North Central Narcotics Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The Narcotics Unit is also frequently requested by other law enforcement agencies located within McHenry County to provide assistance in investigating narcotics and narcotics related incidents.
While the presence of illegal drugs in our community, as well as many communities in the United States continues to rise, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office – Narcotics Unit welcomes information from the public regarding the sale of, possession of, or manufacture of illegal narcotics. The unit also investigates the diversion of and illegal use of prescription medications.
